Mardi Gras and National Strawberry Day
Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, is on February 25 this year. Mardi Gras is
French for Fat Tuesday referring to indulging on rich, full-fat foods before the
fasting for Lent. All of Louisiana celebrates Mardi Gras, especially
the festive French Quarter in New Orleans where parades are held with people
dressed in elaborate colorful costumes. I'd love to watch from a distance.
National Strawberry Day is February 27. Strawberries are
part of the rose family and there are over 600 varieties.
There are a few stories about how the strawberry got its name.
One story is of English children putting the berries on grass straws
and taking them around their neighborhoods to sell them.
Wish someone a sweet day with this
