World Honey Bee Day

World Honey Bee Day falls on the third Saturday of August and
in 2021 it is on Saturday the 21st.
It is a day to celebrate the honey bee and the beekeepers.
I appreciate you!
Buying honey from a local beekeeper is nice since it will be fresh,
high quality, and filled with important antioxidants that help your body
fight off those terrible free radical cells.

Some fun facts about honey bees:
The little honey bees can fly up to six miles and as fast as 15 mph
They visit 50-100 flowers during a collection trip
Now about the Queen~
She lives for about 2-3 years and can lay up to 2500 eggs a day during the summer months
She is constantly fed and groomed by her attendant worker bees
and may mate with up to 17 drones over 1-2 days of mating

Have you ever wondered where the term "honeymoon" came from?
I didn't until now.
Fermented honey, known as Mead, is an ancient fermented drink.
The term honeymoon started with the Norse (Scandinavian folklore)
practice of consuming large quantities of Mead during
the first month of marriage.
