National Son and Daughter Day August 11

August 11 is National Son and Daughter Day!
A good day to send a card or make a phone call to
adult children and spend some extra time for youngsters.

It's said observance of this holiday started in 1988 but
Henry Dusenberry
started the day in Missouri in 1936 after he heard a child ask
why there is no special day for sons and daughters like there
are for moms, dads, and grandparents.

Parents in Missouri started placing flowers in a vase,
each one representing a child, and then placing the vase in a
special area in their home.

By 1945 there were 22 states and organizations participating.
