Victorian Ferndale, California Misty Mornings

We visited California's prettiest small town
and I was pleasantly surprised at all of the Victorian
buildings and houses still in excellent condition.

The first morning was misty.  We walked around the town
after coffee at Mind's Eye Manufactory.
The cemetery catches the eye immediately
and was right out of a Hitchcock movie the morning we were there.

We spent time at the beach.
It was an adjustment for us coming from the harsh
light and heat of the desert.
The light was soft and the air moist.
This gull had a large fresh fish he'd been feasting on
and was braving the waves with a full belly.

Lots of driftwood logs to sit on while I painted.
A great exercise in ocean colors with gray tones
to mute nearly every color I used.
The steep, high tide carved hills were
great copper colors with touches of yellow in the
wildflowers.

Considering it is August, when I got home
all of my paintings looked wintery to me.

As we walked to the coffee shop to have
a cup before we departed the mist was already lifting
and the light was beautiful on the buildings.
