Calla Lily, Canterbury Bells, and Clematis
The white Calla Lily flower means modesty, purity, and innocence in The Language of Flowers. The name comes from the Greek word "Calla" which means beauty. They also
symbolize rebirth and new beginnings and can be seen in paintings with the Virgin Mary so is a favorite flower among Christians. Calla Lily flowers can be found in a variety of colors. The pink Calla Lily symbolizes admiration and appreciation.
They also symbolize flirtation so can be given to someone you fancy.
An elegant flower for a business card that works with the
minimalism style that is popular now.
Canturbury Bells symbolize constancy and gratitude.
This flower is also referred to as Bellflower, Venus Looking Glass, and others.
In Greek Mythology
Venus had a magic mirror and anyone who looked in it saw only beauty.
She lost her mirror one day and a shepherd boy found it
and, of course, wanted to keep it. Venus sent Cupid to retrieve the
mirror and he ended up having to shoot his arrow at the shepherd to release
the mirror. The mirror fell and broke into many pieces. Wherever the pieces of the mirror
landed Canterbury Bell flowers grew.
Clematis symbolizes artifice, ingenuity, and mental beauty.
Other names for this flower are "Old Man's Beard" and "Traveler's Joy"
and is considered Queen of the Climbers.
It is known for it's ability to climb finding its way through nooks
and crannies to establish itself to bloom beautifully.
Surprisingly, I couldn't find any fun Greek Mythology for this flower.
