State Bird Illustration Series New England

This is my favorite part of the country and was excited to draw these birds.
The state bird of Connecticut is the American Robin.  Since I've been watching "Turn: Washington's Spies" on Netflix lately, the fact Benedict Arnold was from Connecticut caught my eye.  Also home of Eli Whitney and the cotton gin.

"The Live Free or Die" state chose the Purple Finch and lilac flower.
I'm from Idaho, the Potato state, but potatoes were first planted in 1719 in Londonderry, New Hampshire which started others planting them across the country.
If you like pancakes and french toast with real maple syrup, it takes approximately 40 gallons of sap to make approximately 1 gallon of maple syrup.

Vermont's bird is the Hermit Thrush and red clover. The first Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream store opened in Burlington 1978.  Well done.  Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream anyone?
Noting the maple syrup info above, Vermont produces over 500,000 gallons a year.

Maine, my favorite state of all, chose the Chickadee and the white pine cone and tassel.
Eastport is the most eastern city in the US receiving the first rays of sun in the morning.
It has over 5,000 miles of coastline, over 2,000 islands,
and more moose than any other state.
