State Bird Illustration Series Flying North


Flying north now to Maryland and they chose the Baltimore Oriole.  
This state has a bit of an odd shape being curled around the Virginias. They are also generous because they gave up some of their land to form Washington, D.C.   


Delaware chose the Blue Hen chicken as their state bird.  
Delaware has no state parks and at it's widest point is 35 miles across. 
They do have many historic churches with the oldest being in use since 1698.
That's worth seeing for me.


Along with Washington, New Jersey chose the Eastern Goldfinch for their state bird.
Home to some great musicians as well as Albert Einstein for part of his life.
New Jersey is completely surrounded by water 
except for a small portion along the New York border.  
The street names in the game Monopoly are all taken from actual streets in Atlantic City.  
You only want to land on Park Place if you own it!


The Rhode Island Red Hen for Rhode Island.
This state is the home of the first circus in 1774.  
A small but strong and decisive state being the first colony 
to prohibit importation of slaves in 1774.
The first to take military action against England by striking one of her ships and the first to declare its independence from Great Britain.
