State Bird Illustration Series in the Southeast
Georgia chose the Brown Thrasher for their state bird. It is a songbird and called a thrasher, I thought that didn't quite match. Georgia is the largest state east of the Mississippi.
Atlanta is the home of Margaret Mitchell and Coca-Cola Headquarters.
And lots of Peachtree related things.
Florida was one of a few states that chose the mockingbird for their state bird. The mockingbird is a songbird that looks like one to me. Florida sounds like a lovely place to visit. Starting with St. Augustine which is the oldest city in the US founded in 1513.
Then definitely Fort Lauderdale which is known as the "Venice of America" because the city has 185 miles of local waterways. Have to see Cape Canaveral. Think I'll skip DisneyWorld. I'd love to see a crocodile and/or an alligator instead. From a distance.
South Carolina chose the Carolina Wren. These are adorable fluffy little birds that are apparently shy but are pretty loud with their songs for their size. Even though Georgia is "The Peach State" South Carolina grows more peaches with Johnston being the Peach Capital of the World. South Carolina has some interesting names for some of the towns like Due West, Ninetimes, and Welcome. Then there's Coward, South Carolina.
