May Day Spring Festival

Tomorrow is May Day. People have big flower pots
in full bloom in their carts at Walmart
(one of the very few places to go in town right now)
and it is a happy sight.

Originally, in medieval times, May Day was the celebration
of the return of spring.

The Greeks and Romans
held festivals.  People gathered wildflowers and wove floral crowns
for the May King and Queen.  People danced round a May pole and
had a festive time.

But the New England Puritans had different ideas about May Day
and the custom didn't continue in America.

In the 20th century many countries started celebrating
May Day honoring workers, their struggles and
achievements over time.
