State Bird Illustration Series - The Baker

Did you learn about "The Baker" in an elementary school geography lesson?  I did.
Third grade in Mrs. Guy's class at Homedale Elementary School in Idaho.
One of my favorite years of school.  Thank you, Mrs. Guy.
If you look at the map of the US, Minnesota is The Baker's hat.
The state bird of Minnesota is the loon.  They inhabit coastal waters and southern lakes.  They have volunteer "Loon Rangers" that patrol lakes and help educate about conservation and loon breeding grounds.

Iowa is The Baker's face.
They chose the Eastern Goldfinch and Prairie Rose to represent their state.
Thank goodness for Iowa.  They are the third most productive agricultural state after California and Texas supplying 1/10th of the US food supply.
They value education and produce smart kids, too!  The have the 2nd highest average SAT scores for the state and tied for 2nd for the highest ACT scores.  Well done.

Missouri is The Baker's belly.
They chose the bluebird and and the blooming Hawthorn Tree to represent their state.
Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain was born in Missouri.
He seemed to like spending time in Nevada during his lifetime.
Missouri was the gateway to the west with St. Joseph being the starting point of the Pony Express.  Independence was the starting point of the Sante Fe and Oregon Trails.

Arkansas is The Baker's legs.
Arkansas chose the mockingbird and apple blossom to represent their state. Sounds like Arkansas is a beautiful state.  They have over 600,000 acres of lakes and 9,700 miles of streams and rivers.  Craters of Diamonds State Park allows dedicated prospectors to search for precious gems.  Mt. Ida is known as the quartz crystal capital of the world.  Nice.
Arkansas is "The Natural State"

Louisiana is The Baker's feet.
They chose the Eastern Brown Pelican and Magnolia to represent their state.
Home of the New Orleans Saints and Mardi Gras.
Winnsboro is a very patriotic city and is known as the
