Nasturtium Watercolor, Lake Tahoe Camping, Into the Wild

We took a break and went camping at Lake Tahoe for a few days. We stayed at Fallen Leaf Campground.  Beautiful weather and had a great time.  This is a view from our hike on the Rubicon trail a little past Emerald Bay.

Along the trail we found a little sandy beach to have our lunch and rest.  The trail was busy and the day was really  nice.  Lots of boats on the water, especially sailboats ~ my favorite.  I'd like to go on one some day.  Need to put that on my bucket list.

The tea house on the island near Vikingsholm. The MS Dixie and Tahoe Queen take their passengers around the island on their route.  That's a fun thing to do too if you visit Tahoe.

The purple lupines were in bloom all over along with several other wildflowers.  Really colorful right now.  The forests look really healthy and hopefully everyone is being extra careful with campfires and such.

My first nasturtium bloom in my garden pot.  I planted several nasturtiums, snapdragons and lobelia in my planters this season.  Usually I plant petunias but I wanted something different this year and I'm so glad I changed.  The nasturtiums are so fun and cheerful to look at.  Their leaves are great.

I painted our front tree last week.  I wanted to paint a tree to put on some greeting cards.  I'm still working with it and not sure if I'll use it or not or what type of card it may turn out to be.

I chose this book to read on our camping trip since we'd be out in the wild for a few days.  It's an amazing story and so engrossing I could hardly put it down.  I still don't know what to think of his actions and what happened to him.  I mostly feel it is a sad shame because he was so smart and had so much potential.  Interesting how all consuming an idea or dream can be.  Really good read and highly recommended!

Botanical Fabrics, Illustrator Brushes and Cat Comics

My Spoonflower Bees and Leaves fabric was featured in a magazine from the UK called SewMag and I was really honored to have my fabric featured with their other designers.  It looks like a really nice thorough magazine for sewing enthusiasts!

I really like the moodboard they made with different fabrics in the botanical theme.
Nice greens.

I was in a botanical mode this week and made some photoshop brushes in illustrator from some of my drawings.  A warm collection.  I'm thinking of putting these into a fabric design.

And a green theme.  Each collection has herbs, a few flowers and some fruit.  I think in my next collection I should have some bugs.  Big beetles.  They would be a nice variation :)

I've watched Simon's Cat on Youtube and recently found a comic book filled with his fun comics.  I love it.  It is LOL funny for me.  I like that there are no words and interpretation is needed so it makes me study them more.  I really enjoy is pen and ink drawings too.  Great artist all around.  Fun book for comic and cat lovers.

Baby Shower Cards, Tahoe and Cattails

I've been designing baby themed cards this week in illustrator.  I'm becoming more comfortable with illustrator and love it so much.  I'm used to working with watercolor and I find I really like the nice clean and crisp look of an illustrator design.

We visited Truckee on Memorial Day and I found this little book in one of the gift shops.  It's called Tahoe Blues and has short works of "flash fiction" (new to me term) all related to the lake and/or living at Lake Tahoe.  Each chapter is named after a different shade of blue like aquamarine ~ powder blue ~ cerulean
It is such a fun read and each story is no more than 500 words so it is fun to read at breakfast or during short breaks during the day.  I was surprised at two of the two stories I've read so far where people had run into bears on hiking trails.  I didn't think they were out and about during the day and in populated areas.  I'll be very aware from now on... :)

I live near a large canal that is bordered by lush cattails.  Their leaves are getting taller all the time and soon will be blooming.  I love cattails and really enjoy drawing them too.
