Seagulls, Cloudy Sky and October Birthday Cards

I went to the bird refuge out of town and drew some of the seagulls milling about.  Usually this time of year there are a lot of neat birds out there but the water is very low so they are elsewhere.  I see a lot of neat ones near our house and out at the lake.   Big cranes and jet black birds with deep red feathers and some with bright yellow feathers.  I need to learn what kind they are.

Memorial Day weekend we had great clouds.  Lots of fluffy white cumulus and it was nice and warm.

I spent some time at the lake trying to capture some cloud photos and then I sketched some also, just haven't scanned them yet.  Next week.

I'm almost finished with my series of birth month flower cards and worked on October this week.  Will do November in a darker brown, maybe a nutmeg and then maybe a pine green for December.

Sketch of Morning Glory Flowers

There is a nice wide open area for walking in front of our house that has quite a few trees and paths to walk on.  Yesterday I walked out there and found some cheerful little morning glory wildflowers to draw.  They were pure white with just a hint of lavender around the edges, but I wanted to color mine a little more.  I also wanted to do a drawing that spanned both pages of my moleskin sketchbook.  I've seen other artist's drawings like that and love them.  Think I will do more.  I haven't used my moleskin in a long time, nice to get back to it.

Red Poppy Pen and Ink Drawing

I've been making red poppy items this week in my Zazzle shop.  Lots of them!

I made aprons, mugs, buttons, postcards and magnets.
I made a fabric pattern out of it too and covered pillows, table linens, and ipad/pod covers.  Fun project!  Enjoy the weekend!

Bluebird Bookmark Nature Set

I designed some bookmarks this week with a nature and bluebird theme.  There's some nasturtiums in there, a little yellow moth and robin's eggs.

I put a spring green plaid watercolor pattern behind them so they can be cut out close to the edge of the bookmark or have a border of the plaid.  It's available as a printable sheet and you can find them here.  Quick and easy!

Watercolor Printable Papers

I was playing around with my paintings and drawings that I used in the Spoonflower fabric I mentioned in my last post and made some printable stationery/craft papers.  It is a set of five and I thought they were nice for springtime.

I designed two like this one but the herbs on the bottom are different and the other paper has a few honey bees on it.

This is a nice one if you like chartreuse and spring green!  And dots.  I like the dots and the aqua blue background.  I think I will design some more in a different colorway and orange comes to mind.  I really  like orange.
