Cathedral Road Lake Tahoe Lupines

I went with Reno Tahoe Plein Air painting group to Cathedral Road at Lake Tahoe to paint.

In some areas the lupines were 2ft. tall.

I painted several studies to work with at home.

Fallon Art Seeds Collage Post Cards

I took a class today at a local shop called Fallon Art Seeds and had a great time making mixed media postcards.  Lots of layering with colors and finished them off with little pictures and lettering.

A photo of my hollyhocks in the morning.  I like the colors much better.

Pink Hollyhocks Sketch

My hollyhocks are blooming.  New blooms every day.  Trying to sketch daily changes with them.

My hollyhocks at 3 p.m.  Amazing how the camera captures the hot sun.  I'll try another photo in the evening to see the change in light.

Pomegranate and Purple Onion Watercolors

My first pomegranate painting.  The stem part was a challenge for me trying to get the shading right.  It tasted nice and sweet too.

My first purple onion.  I painted this twice working with purples, pinks and browns to get my mix the way I wanted it.   I liked painting the layers and trying to depict the very fine outer layers.

Cosmos, Nigella and Basil Watercolor Studies

Painting outside today. Studies of cosmos, nigella seed heads and basil leaves.  This first drawing is pen and ink with watercolor.

I drew the cosmos in my journal a few days ago and painted it today.

This is a wild random mix of color and shape.  It was the most fun of all three to do.

Champagne and Fuchsia Roses Watercolor Painting

The painting challenge on Daily Paintworks this week is roses and mine are in full bloom.  They're in full bloom all over town and I love to see them.
This is an ACEO of a miniature rose from my garden.  Trying to paint loose, yet give enough petal detail.

Poppy Dance Watercolor Painting

This is another view of Napa Valley in May.  I loved the poppy flowers in bloom along this fence line and challenged myself a bit with the perspective.

Vineyard Roses Watercolor Paintings

We took a trip to Napa in May and the vineyards had roses growing at the end of each row. I read that it helps to determine the health of the vines.  If the roses are healthy, the vines are healthy.  Some of the same diseases affect both.

I painted this twice and this one was my first attempt.  I liked the colors I ended up with in the foreground, but didn't have enough light at the top of the vines.  Not sure which I like better, but they are just different enough for me to keep them both.

Nigella Watercolor Studies

I have lots of Nigella blooming right now.

I did several studies.  This more detailed drawing on bristol paper with pencil and paint.

A quick study with pen and ink wash.

And a painterly study with no pencil drawing and using just a flat brush to make the shapes.  I liked this one the best and enjoyed painting it the most.
