May Day Bouquet

I bought a pink daisy bouquet at the store and have been painting different studies of it over the last couple days.  This one was loose with vibrant shades.  Not sure if I like it yet.

I missed drawing the details of the flowers.  I like the challenge of drawing the petals when they're curled and maybe starting to wilt.
My pencil drawing painted.  I think I may try it again tomorrow in a horizontal format.  Happy May Day tomorrow.

Pink Petunias and Green Tomatoes

I really like planting my vegetables with my flowers.  I've been seeing some very nice plants at the stores, but still to early to plant here I think.  Still frosty mornings.  You can find this painting here in my Artfire Shop.

Painting Yellow Pansies

I spent the morning painting yellow pansies that have come up volunteer.  Then we got some nice rain in the afternoon and all evening.   Finally!  We needed some rain.

Green Window Faking Atmosphere Challenge

I took a picture of this window in Dayton, Nevada last summer and decided to paint it for this weeks DPW Challenge on "faking atmosphere".  I added greenery and the direction of light for interest.  You can see the painting here.

Virginia City St. Mary's Art Retreat

Last weekend I attended at art retreat at St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City.

We hiked around.  This is a view of the seven mile canyon.

I saw some wild horses on an early morning walk.

This is Sugar Loaf mountain and we did some plein air painting here.  I sketched the old mine mill foundations at the base of the hill.

When we arrived at our plein air painting site these fearless chickens greeted us.  I wished I had something to give them to eat.  They looked like they hadn't been taken care of for quite a while.  Poor things.

A sketch I did from the front porch of St. Mary's later in the afternoon.  Super fun weekend.

This is from a photo I took last year in Norcross, GA while walking the alleyway behind small businesses as they seemed to keep them almost as nice as the front with ornaments and such.

My entry for the weekly challenge on Daily Paintworks.  I saw these purple lupines while on a hike near Lake Tahoe.

Tree Shadows and Purple Carnations

This was my entry for the shadows contest last week on Daily Paintworks.  It's an old cinderblock house in downtown Fallon.

I bought a bargain bouquet at Walmart with lots of baby's breath in it.  It's one of the best bouquets I've bought as after a week it still looks great.
