One of my first dates with my husband was going crystal hunting in the desert. There used to be thousands of them all over shining like diamonds in the sun, mostly gone now - too many people collecting and/or selling them I guess. This is one we found that had some flaws on the sides of the crystal.

Like drawing a name out of a hat, today I picked one of my photos out of my box and drew it. I didn't let myself look through them, or decide, or think "I'm not inspired to do that one today". It was really fun and I just let myself go. I put on some zippy instrumental music - John Jorganson Quintet - and let myself play with fun marks and colors.

I was thinking if climbing roses, but I've done a lot of roses lately. Climbing Clematis came to mind and a couple urns and a wrought iron arbor that I would pass through to take a long walk in a meadow to the mountains...

Finally some clouds today. Pretty dry right now in the desert, need to do a rain dance so we can have full lakes again for fun in the sun this summer. I am missing flowers especially since it has been so nice - in the 50s and cloudless- it seems like spring. I decided to paint some to add a little color to my day.

A small creek still flowing in Ludley, Nevada and Stoke's Castle stands tall on a mountain top in Austin, Nevada. Beautiful day with just one little cloud next to the castle. Snow still covered the ground in patches. We looked around the town at the old rock building remnants and explored the desert filling ourselves with the wonderful fresh air.

I had been looking at an old bottle with dried roses in it for a drawing subject. The bottle is one my son found while exploring in the desert on a weekend outing. The roses dried so nicely with very unique colors. There was also a small cluster of buds that dried perfectly. This was what inspired me for "contained" this week.
