Sunrise Petunias

I sat outside this morning at 5:30 to watch the sunrise.  Not my usual practice, but I really enjoyed it so may continue.

My initial sketch.  I haven't worked with colored pencils in a while and liked blending the colors randomly and quickly to see what I could come up with limiting the colors I used and trying to match the sky somewhat.

Sketch of Books To Read

The stack of books, one of them, I have ready to read.  I found three of them at a neat antique shop in Sonora, CA over the weekend.  The Hemingway I found at Cheshire Antiques, a great shop in Gardnerville.

Chrysanthemum Sketches

Chrysanthemum sketches last evening outside in the wind.

Needed to get outside anyway for some air.  Felt refreshed after getting blown around a bit.

Polar Bear, Almonds and Butterflies

This week I've been working on some sketches for national days greeting cards.  I worked on some hand painted lace, which was trickier than I thought it might be.  I'd like to start drawing more animals, I enjoyed sketching the polar bear.  I researched almonds and painted them in different stages of growth.

Some different drawings for fabric designs.  A loose sketchy style with colored outlines rather than black this time.

Goslings at Virginia Lake

We took a walk around Virginia Lake Saturday evening and found lots of bird activity.  Two noisy large white geese were upset at our picture taking, I think.  They cross the street to get away.

Mama and her babies.  This family was content to sit there and let us watch them and take photos.  No ruffled feathers.

Same with this bunch.  They seem to like each other and content to be in their huddle until some little kids came along then they were up in no time and cross the street too.

The gulls active, as always.  I liked the clouds in the sky and it was a nice evening walk.

Lila's Garden Sunset Sunflowers

Another painting from one of the drawings in
my Lila's Garden coloring book called Sunset Sunflowers.  I put the
painting on lots of items in my Zazzle shop.

An all over print tote bag.  These are a new product on Zazzle and have been getting really nice reviews.  The fabric is really nice.
You can click here to see the Sunset Sunflowers tote bag

A cheerful customizable postcard.

Mother's Day Bouquet Sketch

Nice day outside in the afternoon.  I took my Mother's Day bouquet out on the patio to sketch.

I've been enjoying phthalo blue lately.  I didn't want an all pink sketch this time, but I liked the coral pink accents.

Fort Churchill Night Photography

I joined the Reno Photography Club on Monday at Fort Churchill for practicing night photography.  I went out just before sunset to see what the colors would be like.

Do not enter signs in front of all the buildings now so I had to shoot from a distance.

It was a nice calm evening and great clouds.  The sun put a nice glow on the flowering bushes and the sides of the buildings.

I saw quite a few rabbits.  Three really small cotton tails and a few jack rabbits.  Otherwise very quiet.

The group arrived after the sun started to set and we stayed to shoot the stars.  A new experience for me.  I learned a lot more about my camera and had a great time.  My first capture of the stars.

American White Pelicans at Lake Lahontan

Sketching at Lake Lahontan Silver Springs side on Sunday.  The water level is up.  Patches of new trees growing in areas and several American White Pelicans floating among them.

Pretty quiet day at the beach and the clouds were great.  Just a slight breeze.

I got out my paints and sketched the pelicans with lots of phthalo blue, it packs a punch.

Different view of the lake with purple mountains and I added my own foliage.  I like to dress up the desert a bit.

My expression of the little trees on the beach.  This was my first sketch of the day getting my paints wet.  Spent a nice afternoon at the lake.

Lila's Garden Purple Iris and Roses

My third painting from the Lila's Garden coloring book is Iris and Rose.  I experimented with different line widths for the drawings in the coloring book.  I wasn't sure if I'd like the big bold lines, but I do.  They look strong.

I put the painting on several items in my Zazzle Shop.  I liked the way the t-shirt turned out.  You can choose from several different colors of t-shirt.  They have several pastel colors that work well with the painting.  You can find the iris t-shirt here.

And a tote bag.  I've ordered the tote bag before and it's a nice size for grocery shopping and farmers markets.  You can find the iris tote bag here.
