Hazen Nevada Detail Photos

Another photo walk at Hazen (it's close to where I live) and focusing on details this time.  I liked this big number on the door of an old building.

Neat old sign and trying to frame it with intersecting lines.

On the door of the gas station is this sticker.  I loved it.

This is a really narrow, small house and I've always wondered what it was like inside.  Definite no trespassing signs on it so no luck there.

This has been a favorite view of mine every time I shoot at Hazen.  I think this is my favorite.  I like portrait shots and the clouds make it more interesting to me.

A tree with pretty leaves starting to leaf out and the red house in the background.

Lila's Garden Sunflowers and Flower Buckets

This is the second watercolor painting completed from the Lila's Garden coloring book.
I enjoy using the really vibrant colors for these.  Lots of paint and a little water, I'm used to the opposite with lots of water and little paint, timidly :)  Feels great to use some paint!

I think this pillow would be great on patio furniture or a sunroom.
You can find it in my Zazzle shop here.

And a cheerful thank you card.  You can easily customize the card and

Indian Paintbrush and a Wild Horse

We drove out to Garfield mine near Hawthorne last weekend and I saw a lot of blooming wildflowers.  Lots of Indian Paintbrush.  Beautiful reds.

A few cactus plants too with some flower buds forming.  They looked nice and healthy with a warm green color.

Some of the remaining structures at the mine.  I always like to look around and see what they left and imagine what it was like there for whomever worked there.  Hot, dry, dusty probably.  No trees anywhere.

I found the top of a glass bottle in a beautiful purple color.  The glass is so thick.  I decided to put it in a couple of my pictures.

Not much wildlife on our trip except for this lone wild horse.  He wasn't skittish and took his time walking away after we noticed him laying down.

Lots and lots of dandelions too.  They look pretty out in the desert.  The yellow is so bright and cheerful.

Lila's Garden Red Apple

Now that my Lila's Garden Coloring Book is published, I'm painting some of the drawings with watercolor to make prints and other items.

The red apple made a nice bright pillow.  Would look great on outdoor furniture.
You can find this in my Zazzle Shop here

There are several other items in my Zazzle shop with
Lila's Garden images on them.  You can see the collection here.

Rainy Day Apple Hill Photo Walk

Lots of rain last weekend so I was excited to get out in it to practice photographing weather.  We drove to Apple Hill and stopped at Spooner Lake first.  Nice fog and low clouds. I like how rich the colors look in the rain.

Then we stopped at Zephyr Cove.  MS Dixie and Tahoe Queen are side by side.  I thought they had a nice military look about them from this view.

I tried to blur some water using a slow shutter speed.  This is a creek that runs into the lake at Zephyr Cove.  I was happy with  how this turned out, I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Lots of water running in the American River and it's fabulous to see.  I heard lots of happy comments about the rain from people in the shops in Placerville.

We found some turkeys foraging in one of the orchards.  He wasn't too thrilled about getting his picture taken.  He started to ruffle his feathers and walk away.

This one was taken in the middle of the week.  We had some nice clouds at sunset so we took a walk along the canal.

Lila's Garden Adult Coloring Book

I've been working on an adult coloring book project for the last few weeks and it was published today!  I'm very excited to have Lila's Garden available for you to color.  It's filled with a fun variety of hand drawn garden scenes.

There are 37 pages to color, not counting the illustrations on the information pages.  There's something to color on every page.  This page has poppy flowers blooming around a bird bath with a border of "flower" in different languages.

I enjoyed drawing this bee and honeycomb pattern.  I liked drawing the huge bee.  Many of the pages have borders to color that add another design element to the page.

This is the first page I chose to color when I received my proof copy.  I used the Staedtler triplus fineliner markers for the flower centers and leaves.  They are great for small areas.  The colors are nice and bright and there are quite a few colors to choose from in the set.

I have a little more to color on this page.  I used the Bic Papermate Flair markers for parts of the flowers.  Most of the page is colored with colored pencils.   I used Prismacolor and Fantasia colored pencils.  The color goes on smoothly and blends well.

Silver Saddle Ranch Nevada Photo Walk

Last Saturday's photo walk was at Silver Saddle Ranch near Carson City.  A bright sunny day and no clouds when we started walking.

I love the red outbuildings.  Quite a few people around hiking and enjoying the weather.

Some of the tamest cows I've seen.  We gave them a little fresh green grass and they hung around even longer so I could practice photographing them.  Definitely a challenge trying to make a photograph of moving things.  Bright sunlight so I tried out a sepia cast to to this one and thought it turned out okay.

This cow was funny with his tongue sticking out.  He and a buddy got away from the herd and somehow across the fence.

I liked this view of the Carson River looking toward the city and the Sierras still dusted with snow.  Late afternoon and the clouds finally started moving in.

Anchor Painting at The Daily Grind

I went to a painting and wine class the other night at the Daily Grind in Fallon.  Lots of people there to paint the anchor.

This is the table I was sitting at with my friends and the instructor giving us some tips.  He's a fun instructor and great artist.

My finished anchor painting.  Lots of bubbles, like a carbonated sea  ~ My Seven-Up sea.  :)

Honey Bee Plum Blossom Tree Sketch and Photos

Our plum tree is filled with sweet blossoms right now and the bees love it.  I haven't done a sketch in a while because of another project and it was nice to do one today.

One of our last photography tutorials from Anne McKinnell was photographing weather and I've been waiting to get some.  We finally did on Monday and it snowed all day, thankfully.  Tends to be dry down here in the Fallon oasis area.

The same tree a couple days later.  It seems refreshed.

We had to pull a dead tree out of one of our garden beds and I found these bright pansies tucked in by the fence growing happily.
