Drawing From the Mind Painting From the Heart

A few years ago I found this great book at a used bookstore.  I've started and stopped the lessons a couple times before now and I'm hoping to finish this time.
As they say, third time ...

First lesson is imagination drawings.  Mine weren't that great so I wanted to draw something I was looking at to make myself feel a little better :)

This was an exercise to classical music and I really got lost in it, time was up before I knew it.  The deep colors were the strongest musical notes.

This was one of my favorite exercises.   I liked the simplicity.

Learning contour edges and overlapping.

A neat connect the dots exercise with paper bags.  Wasn't easy for me and I was happy with my result.

The second week was filling in shapes and working with cross hatching.

I bought a fall bouquet and spent the week working on these for fabrics and other designs in my shops. I used mostly cross hatching for them.

A still life with some favorite objects.  Tried to do cross hatching with watercolor to build up the shapes.  Great book, recommended.

Autumn Daisies Purple Butterfly Painting

Really inspired by autumn and orange lately.

I've found several things to put my painting on in my Zazzle shop.

A poster print in an easy size to frame.

First Day of Autumn Gifts on Zazzle

In honor of the first day of Autumn I went browsing on Zazzle to find some really pretty autumn themed gifts!  I loved this phone case with the leaves and weathered wood.

I liked the different colors and patterns of the leaves in this mug.

These clipboards are a fairly new item on Zazzle and I'm looking forward to buying one for myself.  I just haven't decided which one I want yet.
I loved the colors in this one and the monogram.

And these pretty return address labels with the delicate tree branches and orange leaves.

Beautiful pillows for fall decoration as the leaves begin to change.  Nice rich colors and patterns in this pillow.

Pretty autumn postage stamps decorated with colorful leaves painted with watercolor in a lovely style and design.

I thought this was a beautiful photograph of autumn leaves and the bokeh in the background.  Very nice.

Happy Autumn!

Marlette Lake In Autumn Watercolor Painting

This is a great time of year to hike to Marlette Lake at Lake Tahoe.  The fall colors are coming on and the water looks a deeper blue.

I made the painting into several autumn greeting cards including a happy birthday card.
You can find a nice selection of other cards in my Greeting Card Universe Store here.

Candy Pink Flowers Watercolor Illustration

A little ACEO I painted this summer while my flowers were in full bloom in my backyard.  I've put the illustration on lots of items in my Zazzle shop.

And made a few thank you note greeting cards.  This one is to a wonderful teacher.  I think teachers are the best.  They have a challenging job and I appreciate them for what they do.

Washoe Lake Cloudy Desert Scene Watercolor

A couple weeks ago I was trying to paint this scene from Washoe Lake and had trouble with the sky.  I think I tried three times and gave up.  I tried again and liked it this time.

I made the painting into three different cards in my Greeting Card Universe Store.
A thinking of you card, a congratulations card and this birthday card.   All have customized fronts so you can put the message you want on the front and the inside.
